The organization came into existence as district Women unit of Vindhya Pradeshic Mahila Samiti on the initiation of Former Lt.Governor Late Shri Kastoori Santhanam in 1952 as he was sore with the condition & backwardness of women in the region of BundelKhand. Women were in parda and literacy of women was only 8%. The society was traditional and cast based under the feudal system. In the above situation the organization started its activities with literacy classes for women and children. Later on, the organization was registered under the Indian Societies Act in the year 1961. Mahila Samiti started its movement for awakening the women of the area. Initially, Mahila Samiti commenced two years condensed courses for middle & High School Examinations, skills development trainings for women under various vocations and also started crèches (Jhula Ghar) at various locations for children of working women. All these activities were supported by the Central Social Welfare Board New-Delhi. Mahila Samiti established Lal Bahadur Shastri High School for the children of poorest and weaker section of the society with the aim to provide quality education to them. Later on, the organization entered in to Socio-Economic programmes to develop awareness among women & children for their social rights, violence against them and their empowerment for sustainable growth of society as a whole.
